Lamb – totally epic music!

I know that this is not your first concert in Romania, but is the first one in Cluj-Napoca. How do you feel returning in this country, what do you remember about your experience here?

I remember the audience was very warm and we went down really well. I also remember eating some great local food ( both Lou and I are real foodies).

What should we expect to hear on the 6th of March?

Well, we are really proud of our new album, ‘Backspace Unwind’, so we will be playing a lot of tracks from it. We also play the classics (Gorecki, Gabriel, Little Things, God Bless etc) and do some cool new unexpected remixed versions of some of the tunes.

What do you know about Romanian music?

I’m a big fan of George Enescu and think his arrangements are sublime. I’m also a big fan of brass sections, which Romania does brilliantly.

Do you plan an anniversary tour in 2016?

No plans as yet.

Tell me three (or more) words about your last album, Backspace Unwind.

How do you feel during the band hiatus? How was like rejoining the band after those years?

It was really hard at the time. After starting Lamb when I was 18 I effectively became ‘Andy from Lamb’. Letting go of that persona when we split took ages – years in fact – but it was a really important process to go through. I had re-find myself and liberate myself from the past. Bizarrely the day that I woke up and genuinely  said ‘I’m over Lamb now’ was the day we got the offer to reform for six gigs (that then became 36 gigs on that tour!).

What about your solo projects, do you plan to develop them in the future?

Yes. My next Lowb album is underway and I’m incredibly excited about it. I’m also producing other artists/bands and really enjoying it. For me Production is a different, but still very creative process.

Your comeback album was made without any major label help. How did you manage that?

We thought outside the box and did a crowd-funded album (this was back before bands were really doing this). It was an interesting and ultimately successful experiment.

”Gorecki” is one of the most famous songs you made. Did you guess its path?

No. We certainly didn’t guess its path. In fact the song nearly didn’t happen. Lou and I argued about it at the time. I called her (original) chorus “overly sentimental” and she called my (original) beats „pedestrian”.  We nearly came to blows over it, so we decided to forget about the song and move onto others. At the end of the album writing process we both agreed to have another look at the song. I rewrote the drums and she wrote another chorus… the rest is history!

What is that one song you never get tired of?

Gorecki

Could you tell me about your music style evolution?

We just keep sitting in the studio and the music keeps on pouring through us. We did make a conscious decision to have a “less is more” ethic from album 5 onwards. I think this new album ‘Backspace Unwind’ takes that idea further.

How do you think the music of the future will sound?

Er… like Lamb?

Where do you find your inspiration?

Nature, my friends and family, yoga, and quietening the mind to let the good ju ju through.

How do you spend your spare time?

I have an amazing 6 year old son who I love to hang out with. Also a big fan of travelling, Goa being my favourite spot.

Do you have a message for your Romanian fans?

Come check out the new show. We’ve got some killer new tunes and the light show is awesome. It’s about energy and yin-yang dynamics…. see you there!
